Review of The September Issue (2009) by Alexander B — 19 Sep 2009
I don't know that I would have enjoyed this movies as much as I did if I hadn't seen The Devil Wears Prada first. It's without a question for the initiated few. Most of my friends would have been bored by the subject and the film's pacing.
The concepts for the photo shoots and how they came about were really fun for me since I'm a lover of photography. As a matter of fact I wish we could have seen more on how Grace Coddington found inspiration and rolled up her sleeves to make the shoots actually happen. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall during casting sessions, brain storming sessions, the process of selecting the right photographer for a particular project, etc.
It feels as though everyone involved is always on their guard so in the end this documentary is an interesting glimpse behind the scenes, but just a glimpse and nothing more.
