Review of The September Issue (2009) by Ann S — 08 Oct 2009
This engaging doc follows ice queen Anna Wintour and her staff at Vogue while they prep the vaunted September issue of the magazine in 2007.
Wintour has held the editor position at Vogue since 1988 and her bitchiness is legendary. At times, she actually comes off more sympathetic in this footage than I expected. The real prize here is creative director Grace Coddington, who is just brilliant and steals the show in every scene. Their often tenuous work relationship provides for some powerhouse moments in this film, along with a little levity by the ALWAYS AMAZING Andre Leon Talley.
