Review of The September Issue (2009) by David B — 14 Nov 2009
If you go to "The September Issue" hoping for a "Devil Wears Prada" skewering of the Conde Nasties at Vogue, you won't find it here. It seems to be a fair look at the mechanics of putting a magazine together.
Anna Wintour doesn't come across as the supreme bitch that many assume. Yes, she is still the chilliest of ice queens, but also one that is passionate about her job and maintaining (demanding) excellence.
The fashion industry is certainly ripe for mockery, but what's most satisfying about "The September Issue" is the high level of creative integrity that these players strive for. And you get the chance to see Andre Leon Talley try his hand at tennis.
All in all, highly entertaining.
