Review of The Sentinel (2006) by Dave C — 03 May 2009
It was inevitable that this film would be compared to the popular show 24, and its not completely a bad thing. That fact is actually what makes this work. Given the presence of Kiefer Sutherland, it is hard to suggest that we would want to watch The Sentinel for any other reason than to see him flexing his Jack Bower muscles and playing his rough and tough, vigilante type police/detective character. And that is exactly what we get, with the added presence of Michael Douglas, Kim Basinger and Eva Longoria.
But where the comparison plays against this film is that it makes it feel like a 2 hour t.v. special. A good t.v. special that is worth watching, but a t.v. special none the less. It essentially feels like you are watching your weekly episode of 24.
The bottom line is that this is a watchable but average film that is good enough to be satisfying, but not much more. And that's okay, because on those rainy days we all need movies like this.
