Review of The Sensation of Sight (2006) by Nicole W — 10 Feb 2010
Lovely to see peterborough so gorgeously rendered. very european film in it's feeling--same sort of pacing and intellectual thought. hated the music. I get that it was trying to echo the sound of time, but it really makes the film longer than it actually is.
I think the film itself meandered a little too much, tried to do homage to too many films/pple. it's a first-time director trying to do a lot in a first film & it probably would have worked better if he pared his ambitions down and stayed with just one particular idea instead of trying to handle all of them.
I didn't really care for the gimmick of the blackboard but I did like how the flashback scenes were shot. I really loved the content of the story and the acting. can't wait to see this director's next movie.
you don't get this kind of a movie very often and even if it was meandering and overlong, it has a great deal of heart and something important to say.
