I love Christopher Eccleston, but this was not his best movie. Overall the movie was OK, I've never read the books so it didn't suffer from comparison. However, compared to other children books turned movie recently this one just didn't stack up to the rest.
The acting was flat, and there was no character development save for the main kid. The twist with the girl working for the Rider was so obvious they shouldn't have bothered hiding her face till the end.
Over all I would say the film seemed rushed, and the ending was just plain lame.
