Review of The Secret of Roan Inish (1994) by Amy B — 09 Dec 2009
OK, here is one you've probably never heard of! It's about an Irish legend and I think it was filmed in Ireland. It's unusual, I had never heard the story before and, of course, it fictitious. Children are the stars. Treavor, Ray and I watched it one Sunday afternoon.
Two things to warn you about -- a little boy (about 3) runs naked for a minute or two and there is one weird part where a man thinks he sees what I would call a mermaid (except she's a seal) and she's kind of sensual. It's near the end where you finally understand what the legend is and piece together the story.
The whole thing kind of reminds me of The Waterhorse. It has that type of feel to it.
