Review of The Secret of NIMH (1982) by Marlan M — 04 Sep 2010
This is one of those special movies that has a pretty dark tone, but is still a kid's movie. And that's one thing that makes it so great. The animation in the movie is just as great as the animation in Don Bluth's other 1980's movies.
I liked Mrs. Brisby, since she seemed like such a likable character. She was very nice, and she was a very good mother, who was willing to do anything to save her so, Timothy. Jeremy the crow was a pretty ridiculous character to watch, since he was always so goofy and clumsy whenever they showed him.
The lair of the rats was pretty cool, with all of the different electrical devices they had. One thing I thought was amazing is that the rats were able to actually move Mrs. Brisby's house to another location.
Those rats can seem to do almost anything. I also thought it was sad when Nicodemus was killed, since he was such a good leader to the rats. The death of Jonathan Brisby was also sad, even thought they never showed it, but just said what happened to him.
It was also amazing when Mrs. Brisby was able to use the medallion she got to save her children from drowning in the mud. It was nice to see her whole family happy in their new home. This was a very good movie, even thought it isn't very well known.
I advise that you should see this movie if you ever get the chance, since it is such a dark and very entertaining animated film.
