Review of The Secret of NIMH (1982) by April C — 26 Oct 2010
I am so impressed with this. Was not expecting an animation of this quality at all. It shows you don't need 3D or fancy computer effects to make a brilliant animated movie. It felt cinematographic (is that a word?) with dramatic angles and lighting, and the attention to detail just floored me. I mean, you can count Mrs. Brisby's eyelashes, fer chrissake!
This was no Disney movie, and I'm so glad. There was blood, and death, and I do believe I heard a cuss! None of that ridiculous cartoon physics that conveniently get characters out of trouble. A plummet to the kitchen floor is terrifying and an untwisted wire can spring back and draw blood.
Just general props to Don Bluth!
