Review of The Secret of NIMH (1982) by Robert D — 19 Nov 2009
I loved the book (Mrs. Frisby & the Rats of Nimh), which was more mature and strategical in the representation of the animals vs. humans and rats vs. rats, and I felt it had more of an epic feel to it that the movie didn't try for.
Rather, I think the movie's goal was more of a feel-good, family-overcomes-great-odds-for-love-and-friendship event (I know that's not a comprehensive goal), and it did an extraordinary job of adapting the book to make it a good kid's movie.
The only way I could have enjoyed this movie more is if I hadn't read the book first.
