Review of The Secret of Nikola Tesla (1980) by Trent R — 05 Oct 2010
Overly reverential and staid, this does happen to also be largely correct. In this instance, it is using biopic techniques to demonize T.A. Edison somewhat and elevate Tesla almost by default. Above mortal concerns, he has Strother Martin playing Westinghouse struggling to produce some sense of narrative conflict while in scenes with the impassive Bozovic as Tesla.
Welles is largely up to his usual, lending pompous import and historical frame, but he does so with excellence. It is still very much worth seeing for Tesla fans, as the use of typical means to more interesting ends is enjoyable.
