Review of The Secret of My Success (1987) by Regis F — 15 Sep 2008
Most everything about the starts are nostalgy stars. It's all about strolling down the memory lane. Oh! The late eighties, there are no better years than those. For me. And Michael took me back there.
Money and suits. The refreshingly boyish presence of MJF. Beautiful in the 80's star of a way Helen Slater, whose eyeglasses were horrible. And a limousine ride with Yello as the background music.
"Oh Yeah!". Some movie freak should find out how many 80's movies include a limousine ride with Yello on the background. Or the number of 80's movies in general, accompanied by Yello's "Oh Yeah".
(Is that the name of the tune?). Well, if you're around 40 like I am, you just might dig this movie as a harmless fun, a time jump back to the golden latter half of the 80's. But if you're younger.
.. Don't bother with this flick. Unless you're some sort of cultural anthropologist. You just can't get the 80's. The late 80's are gone. Forever. (Then again, I think I can get a vague idea of films taking place in Haight-Ashbury in the late 60's, but I wasn't there and I don't get as much kicks out of Jefferson Airplane as I would, had I been there myself.
On the other hand someone has said that if you remember something of the 60's, you didn't live it).
