Review of The Secret of My Success (1987) by Kevin C — 03 Jul 2010
Michael J. Fox charms his own pants off twice with a few stolen scenes and some passionate acting despite the unseriousness of some of the writing.
When you stop dissecting the fact that all the characters are clueless, The Secret of My Success is actually quite a funny little movie.
It's no wonder the company Fox was working for was going out of business if they don't even know that a mail boy is the one doing all the work.
As the film gets deeper and the love box gets more tangled up, the scenes get funnier. Like when the whole lot of workers are together for the weekend at the bosses' mansion and they are all sneaking around at night to see one another with the hilarious choice of background music.
It seems like every time Fox sees the women of his dreams all time stops and everyone leaves the room and music starts playing. Talk about cheesy.
I'm sure in 1987 this movie was really creative, but looking at it now, it's very quintessential.
