Review of The Secret of Moonacre (2009) by Megan L — 28 Feb 2009
Another kids flick but being a fantasy I was always going to go along and see it and was sure I would like it. Not so. Well I did like it but also found it annoying in equal measure. Our heroine was an irritating child that I could not help but feel was directed poorly and the young De Noir boys were all dressed like mediaeval style droogs lifted straight from Clockwork Orange complete with eyeliner and bowler hats.
Then there was the English/French animosity subtly disguised in the names "Merryweather" - our 'good guys' and the Coeur de Noir, or Black Hearts - our French named bad guys. And let us not forget the Lion and the Unicorn together at the end.
For all that the movie was enjoyable and as a children's tale was quite an adventurous romp.
