Review of The Secret of Kells (2009) by Andre H — 21 Sep 2010
This movie makes a lot of assumptions--first and foremost that the audience knows what the Book of Kells is (an elaborately illuminated text of the four gospels). while the story itself is very well-crafted with mythology and the journey of a young hero, the hero's "quest" is completing this book.
for some mysterious and unexplained reason, the brilliant illuminations in this book of unknown content will bring light to dark times--certainly a noble sentiment, but why THIS book? what is the Secret of Kells? overall, I felt this was an extremely well-animated film with an outstanding score and a very solid concept.
unfortunately it suffered from a lack of completeness--character development, plot details, background story, etc.
