The Secret of Kells struggles to jangle the heart as well as the mind, but it delivers entrancing visuals, and is refreshingly on-the-level, rather than settling for cute, merchandise-friendly characters.
How far it will appeal to kids beyond its visuals, however, remains to be seen.
