"I've lived through many ages. I've seen suffering in the darkness. Yet I have seen beauty thrive in the most fragile of places. I have seen the book. The book that turns darkness into light.

" These are words spoken by one of the film's characters, Aisling, of a legendary book that is brimming with wisdom and powers. When the master illuminator of the unfinished book arrives in Kells, a medieval outpost under siege from barbarian raids, he meets young Brendan who must conquer his greatest fears and enter into the enchanted forest to help complete the magical book.

The fate is in his hands to show that true enlightenment is the best way to ward off evil in this epic animated journey. The animation is very unique and often abstract, really treating every frame as it's own work of art.

The storytelling is simple and yet so beautiful, bringing home the lessons that you shouldn't be too overprotective and that the only way to discover life is to explore the world around us.
