Review of The Secret of Kells (2009) by Shea F — 08 Jun 2011
A year ago a little known irish animated film was presented a choice for the academy Award film for best animated feature. Having seen the film, I can see why the critics chose this film. An artwork of stunning, haunting animation, The Secret of Kells combines sharp and colourful animation with a simple yet strong plot and irish celtic music and myth to envoke strong emotional reactions within it's audience.
Not one for young children (although the film will certainly have a strong impact on them if they viewed it) I would rate the Secret as more a nice, short well rounded teens and adult animation classic, perfect for lovers of gaelic culture, fans of animation and critics of well produced modern classics.
