Review of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013) by Kendyl C — 18 Sep 2014
Though it collapses as far as cohesion goes, Ben Stiller accomplishes a lot of detail as far as direction goes--capturing as much charm and cinematography as possible via its many up-close shots of Kristen Wiig and his own facial expressions and the scenic shots of the locations Mitty travels to throughout his adventures.
It's not a narrative masterpiece and unfortunately, a lot of Walter Mitty can be forgotten within weeks after you see it--even if the Icelandic scenery seems to say otherwise. Especially in its final act though, it has a surprising amount of enlightenment once you catch onto the concept Stiller and his team try to capture from the short story.
