Review of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013) by Neil R — 05 Mar 2015
I have a hard time understanding why this only got 50% from Rotten critics. It's an exceptionally well-shot, beautifully-crafted and poignantly-acted film. It's life-affirming without being twee.
Sean Penn is at his absolute best, and Ben Stiller is as good as Steve Carell can be at the funny man playing it straight and sweet. It's a quiet, involving, delightful film and gives you so much hope that it's possible to rise above your situation with the right kind of inspiration and people behind you.
Also, it has one of the best MacGuffins in cinematic history... the reveal is unbelievably terk-jerking. WATCH!
