Review of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013) by Brett H — 04 Jan 2015
A tender and inventive remake of the 1947 version that starts off promising before losing it's charm in the second half and it easily could've been trimmed down. Ben Stiller writes, directs, and stars as the title character and he really puts his all into this and uses some very clever techniques behind the camera and the film looks beautiful.
I had a lot of fun with the day-dream segments (including an insane fight between him and Adam Scott) but they're not around long and although the idea is he grows as a person and no longer needs them, they were the most intriguing aspect.
Once his adventure gets under-way, the film gets beyond ridiculous and logical inconsistencies and other problems arise and it gets surprisingly repetitive. There is some humour to be had and the film looks great, but overall it was a disappointment.
