The Secret Life of Pets, from Chris Renaud and Yarrow Cheney, lays it all out on the carpet. Sprinting in at a brief 80+ minutes, The Secret Life of Pets introduces, tells an amusing tale, and concludes nicely.

While not hitting anything out of the dog park, the film manages to hold a consistent entertainment level with its plethora of characters. The colors are bright and the visuals are pleasing, making for a picture that is easy on the eyes.

The buttered up design of New York and Brooklyn proves to be a setting worthy of the story. The voice work deserves praise. Louis C.K. and Eric Stonestreet carry the pets on their backs, while Jenny Slate and Kevin Hart fill in the holes without fail.

There is no secret to The Secret Life of Pets. It does what it sets out to do. Woof woof.
