Review of The Secret Life of Pets (2016) by Daryl K — 28 Feb 2017
What can I say its a kids movie. I keep overthinking this damn movies, but here it goes. The Secret Life of Pets follows a dog named Max (Louis C.K.) who has a great life with his owner Katie (Ellie Kemper).
One day Katie brings home a dog from the pound named Duke (Eric Stonestreet). Right off the bat Max hates the new dog and plans on getting rid of him. Through a series of events the two are separated one day from their dog walker and run into a gang of stray pets ran by the mischievous rabbit Snowball (Kevin Hart).
The two are soon on the run from Snowball and his gang. Meanwhile, the other neighborhood pets Gidget (Jenny Slate) a small energetic dog, Chloe (Lake Bell) a fat cat and a hawk named Tiberius (Albert Brooks) are hot on their tale devising a plan to bring Max and Duke home! The movies only an hour and 20 minutes long, so its short and doesn't overstay its welcome too long.
The plot is decent albeit very predictable. The film is beautifully animated with a ton of fantastic colors that pop. The character development between Max and Duke just never worked for me. They're all over the place and kind of just jump to a quick conclusion (once again I know its a kids movie).
Overall, not exactly my cup of tea, but a worthwhile rent especially for people with younger kids.
