Review of The Secret Life of Pets (2016) by Robert F — 08 Jul 2017
This movie started out good as do many Hollywood films do. By the middle of the film they ran out of ideas and started to use standard Hollywood cliches to fill the rest of the time. What is most disturbing, and needs to be pointed out, is the institutionalized racism that is present in this film.
At the end of the movie all the pets go back to their homes. Every single pet owner was white and there were at least 10 homes. Statistically speaking, whites make up less than 50% of America. This is not an accurate composite of the U.
S. population. The image portrays white loving pet owners. The one black pet owner dies, which is a typical Hollywood ploy that expresses that non-whites are expendable. The critics need to call out films like this for continuing stereotypes.
So much for the idea that Hollywood is a liberal bastion.
