Review of The Secret Life of Bees (2008) by Dianne F — 05 Sep 2009
A good movie, though I expected it to be. Dakota Fanning's gradual maturity into adulthood is literally being recorded on film for posterity. I expected Queen Latifah to be good, and she was, but I was also happily entertained by Alicia Keys' performance.
I was also pleasantly surprised by Hilarie Burton's appearance in this film. I'm a One Tree Hill fan and will miss her since she and Chad Michael Murray departed from the series, so it was a treat to see her on film.
This film was a painful reminder of segregation in America, but its a part of our history and it needs to be told. Jennifer Hudson could make quite the career in film if she wasn't such a talented singer.
I hope to see her in more films.
