Review of The Secret Life of Bees (2008) by Michelle N — 16 Apr 2010
A coming-of-age story of a girl from South Carolina named Lily Owens, played by Dakota Fanning, who splits from her father's house with her nanny Rosaleen, played by Jennifer Hudson, and travels to a town called Tiburon where they encounter the Boatwrights, three sisters who are beekeepers and sell the honey produced by the bees. The sisters take Lily and Rosaleen in as their own show them their ways.
The story itself is pretty formulaic and is the only real flaw of the movie. The actors all do a good job especially Dakota Fanning. But besides this flaw, the viewer still cares for the characters and what happens with them and it ends up being a pretty good movie that most movie goers will enjoy. 8/10.
