Review of The Secret Life of Bees (2008) by Elise B — 12 Apr 2012
The Secret Life of Bees is an average drama: the storyline is uninteresting, the details are confusing and it doesn't have its focus. From the start to near-end of the film, it just feels like nothing comes together to make sense.
The film features Queen Latifah and Dakota Fanning, both great actress but in this movie they didn't perform their best. As a supporting role, Paul Bettany excellently transform into a man who suffered from war and love-lost, a tough and violent man but still loves his daughter in some way.
Jennifer Hudson's performance, however, is terrible. The ending eventually brings satisfaction to the confusing audience by explaining everything and sending a nice message. Overall, the film isn't so bad itself, but the producers have failed in bringing a great novel into life.
