Review of The Secret Garden (1993) by Zoran S — 13 Sep 2008
I never read the childrenâ??s book the film is based on, so I canâ??t speak to how this counts as an adaptation. Nonetheless, this is a visually stunning film by the always interesting Agnieszka Holland.
(Yes, Iâ??ve repressed Total Eclipse!) I can see what attracted her to the project, as there is a serious engagement with spirituality and the supernatural here, even though it is marketed as a childrenâ??s movie.
But really, what stands out is the filmâ??s beautiful cinematography by Roger Deakins. It was also a pleasure to see Irene Jacoby!
