Review of The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2015) by Michael D — 01 Mar 2015
Viewers of the first film in the 'franchise' will find nothing new here except the inclusion of Richard Gere in the cast.
Here the rather dim owner of the first hotel for retirees aims to expand his hotel empire whilst at the same time preparing/or not to marry.
The cast attracts people to this movie.
To assemble such a cast of mainly ageing British thespians to the project (and Richard Gere!) is good work.
At one stage Dame Judi Dench's character reveals her age to be 79.
A quick look on imdb reveals at the time of viewing she is indeed 80! She was M until a couple of years ago in the Bond films. She has aged well.
The film is comedic in parts with a couple of one liners that had the audience in stitches.
"Im dry", "you need to turn the taps on...". I will let you work that innendo out.
The film is more attractive to the mature viewer. I just hope that the franchise is now put to sleep. I don't know how to phrase that.
