An enjoyable sequel that effectively does what a sequel should do -- continue the story without resorting to rehashing material from the original. While the film does suffer from a few relentlessly silly plotlines and some blatant overacting, the picture also introduces some interesting new twists and features a standout performance by Maggie Smith.

Even though this may not be the best sequel ever made, it does a capable, entertaining and thoughtful job of presenting the next chapter in the lives of a coterie of colorful characters.
