Review of The Searchers (1956) by Schmoog L — 03 Apr 2015
I've never been a huge fan of these classic Hollywood-era Ford/Wayne Westerns, more so the revisionist and spaghetti Westerns which would follow. I always had more of a sentimental appreciation for True Grit, but I can see why this film is widely-regarded as one of Ford's and the genre's best.
The complexity of Wayne's anti-hero, Ethan Edwards, combined with Ford's exciting filmmaking techniques and the picturesque cinematography, which helped make the scenery of Monument Valley so iconic, provide for a mesmerizing cinematic experience.
