Review of The Searchers (1956) by Private U — 18 Sep 2008
Probably the greatest Western of all time, fighting off stiff competition from 'The Wild Bunch' and 'Unforgiven'. As all truely great Westerns do, the film serves as a statement on American culture, deals with the issue of racism towards the Native Americans who's role has always been as the targets, there to be shot down by the brave pioneering Whites, bringing civiliastion to the West.
Through doing this it also questions the morality of gunplay, and the changing face of the American Western. In short, it's little short of stunning. And, as so many have pointed out before, the last shot is truely something.
