Review of The Searchers (1956) by Gabe L — 21 Mar 2009
This may be the best western I've ever seen, and could probably rank among the best movies I've ever seen in general. The themes of racism and genocide in this film are so far ahead of their time that the movie still feels daring, even by today's standards.
John Wayne gives an unforgetable performance and all his costars support him beautifully. From the epic horse chase scenes, all the way to the just barely implied love between Ethan and his brother's wife, this film is flawless.
