Review of The Searchers (1956) by Paul G — 12 May 2009
On a par with the other John Ford/John Wayne masterpiece "Stagecoach", this one has Wayne as a grizzled Civil War veteran/Indian Hunter. Wayne chases renegade apaches for many years trying to rescue his niece, whom they have stolen and who has become a squaw.
Like the earlier effort, Arizona's marvellous Monument Valley is again brilliantly photographed, this time in colour.
