Review of The Searchers (1956) by Patrick S — 09 Aug 2010
The Searchers is not only a quality Western, but I can see and assume that it has an edgy dark-side for 1956. John Wayne's character Ethan serves as a model for the modern-day broken avengers.
The relationship between Martin and Laurie may provide possible relief for an emotionally overwhelmed 1956 audience - it really isn't that controversial - but this relief adds little to the film and extends it to an unnecessary two-hours.
