Review of The Searchers (1956) by Scot C — 23 Oct 2010
"Texican is nothing but a human man way out on a limb".
This is as a cowboys and indian kind of western as you're going to get. And its an absolute classic for it. It inspired many filmmakers to come. I understand that the director John Ford used Monument Valley many times in his films, because it was his favourite place in the world. I can see why, it is visually a masterpice! And as a lover of western films, I cant wait to go there one day, and as an actor shoot a movie there. The landscape is a huge part of this film, and is captured beautifully, with stunning cinematography. John Wayne is your all American hero in this story, as tough as nails, and the symbol back then of what a man should be out in the west. The story is very strong, and has purpose, which keeps an audience engaged throughout. The acting at times is typically melodramatic, but all due respect, they didnt know any beter back then. Its a film everyone should see, just to say they've watched The Searchers!
