Review of The Searchers (1956) by Anthony I — 28 Jan 2016
The Searchers is one of those films that just seems to improve each time you watch it. Wayne once admitted he based his iconic walk, drawl etc from the great Yakima Canutt and as the public obviously loved him, he decided to give the public what they wanted every time.
In this role however, Wayne gives a nuanced performance; you can believe the hatred he feels for the Comanches and his need for revenge underplayed with his obvious love for his brother's wife. If you are one of those people who have never got the whole John Wayne thing; watch this film!
