I go against the critics on this one and say this is a wonderful job by director Gus Van Sant; a powerful story about gaining love, losing love, cherishing the memories, the damaging effects of grief and regret, and gaining life back.

Arthur Brennan (M. McConaughey) is seen taking a one way trip to Japan and a taxi drops him off at Aokigahara, known as the Sea of Trees, a place people go to commit suicide. Once I figured out that was his plan, the story shows Arthur about to kill himself but notices a stranger seeking help in the woods so he comes to his aid and learns the stranger's name is Takumi Nakamura (K.

Watanabe) and his story. The journey continues from there but rest assured that you learn incredible lessons about life along the way! I get chills as I write this review because I believe in the power of spirits guiding us and revealing certain things to us.

Funny how we might have a plan initially but fate throws you a curve and your plan changes dramatically. The screenplay for The Sea Of Trees, penned by Chris Sparling (Buried), is one of those narratives where everything falls into place in the unlikeliest, corniest, and strangely possible ways.

After watching this film you will get a greater appreciation for your LIFE and either count your blessings for what you have or salvage what is left of it. I guarantee it! RECOMMENDED and available on Amazon Prime in HD for subscribers.
