Review of The Sea Inside (2004) by Vichka K — 13 Jan 2008
Can we call the freedom to end own's life freedom and can we call life without freedom to live life? The hero of this movie, Ramon, is fighting for 30 years to obtain the right to die with dignity with the help of his family and friends.
For them, he becomes the center of their universe; my little kingdom he calles them. And yet, even during his very last seconds it is unclear if he won or lost in this seemingly neverending battle... Can 30 years squize down to the length of several last seconds of breathing? In the beautiful cinematography of Alejandro Amenabar they dissolve in the sea depth as easily and convincing as an old paralysed man flies in his dreams.
