Review of The Sea Inside (2004) by Cobalt B — 27 Mar 2009
So much to write about this movie, I feel like I'm swimming in words, The compelling story about this intriguing human being, who spent 30 years of his life fighting for the right to die, Ramon Sampedro, a man whose fear was only to keep on living, was way ahead of his time, completely misunderstood. With the carefult and honest direction of Alejandro Amenabar ("The Others") and the spectacular performance by one my favorite actors, Javier Bardem ("Before Night Falls", "No Country For Old Man"), "The Sea Inside" ("Mar Adentro " in spanish) is not just a movie about euthanasia as many people can think , but a movie that shows you through his death wish, howimportant life can be. Some may say he had no respect for the quadriplegic, but people forget that it was not about other people's lives but his. Ramon never said that being disabled was to live without dignity, only that his life no longer had any.
To me one, of the best movies in the past decade, if not more.
