Review of The Sea Inside (2004) by Cohen S — 24 May 2009
It is one of the best Amenábar movies based on a true story about Ramón Sampedro who suffered an accident in the sea and then he became quadriplegic for twenty-eight years without the right to decide about his Own Life! The story shows the main character needs to fight in court for his right of practicing euthanasia through an association that defends the FREEDOM OF CHOICE agains the social hypocrisys! It's all about a man's struggle to control his OWN destiny.
And Amenábar also used the camera perfectly, capturing Ramón's feeling of isolation without suffocating us the watchers. Aww... the scene in which Ramón has a dream and he's flying across the Galician countryside, brushing the rolling green hills and forests, and finally landing on the beach, is probably one of the most beautiful scenes! Mar Adentro really deserves to be seen.
