Review of The Sea Inside (2004) by Adesh P — 22 Jul 2009
Its well shot, imagined and written. It has some great moments of beauty, conversations and relationships. And I even agree with the basic logic/argument of the film but its thematic rigidity always stops me to love this film and get moved by it as opposed to just like it that too just for its craft and not for its philosophical worth.
Nowhere in the film, especially in the climax, hope and value for life has been restored, something that really bothered me. And even if it did somewhere, I think it wasn't enough. It was as if made my Ramon, the character himself and not by Alejandro Amen¡bar, the director.
I thought it lacked objectivity. I dont have a problem with films with unsettling or poignant endings, but a little bit of compassion is necessary. This sea for me remained little shallow and only one dimensional.
