Review of The Sea Inside (2004) by Daniel A — 08 Dec 2010
"When you depend on other people for living, you cry through your laughs" - The depth and beauty of this film can be explained through this wonderful dialogue from the film itself. So many things to talk about here.
The great cinematography. The beautiful location. Acting of Bardem (he continues to amaze me). The scene where Bardem flew in his mind over the vast Coruna landscape to the sea inside and kissed his lover, that was pure movie magic.
How about the character Rosa? Her fear of losing the men he loved, turned her towards a cripple man on deathbed. But most importantly, this film leaves an unsettling philosophical question --- Does love of other people enough to justify dragging on your life, when life itself became the biggest burden for you? Is love truly that powerful?
