Review of The Science of Sleep (2006) by Ricardo M — 13 Aug 2010
What a wonderfully messy romance comedy. Michael Gondry's genius lies in how he's able to take any basic sort of story and make it interesting beyond compare in his one-of-a-kind surreal directing style.
Sure, the movie isn't terribly easy to follow at times and distinguishing real from dreamscape, but isn't that how things are sometimes for all of us? Now, it does have a very "Eternal Sunshine" aura about it, but its so very bizarre in its own right that it becomes only a tad bit comparable.
And the ending is a heart-warmer without a doubt. The acting and directing are fantastic. A lovely film.
