Review of The Science of Sleep (2006)

By Karina Longworth (242) for Cinematical (752) on 01 Feb 2008

Something like a Luis Bunuel film, but with politics replaced by fashion. It is, essentially, a hipster wet dream…

Review of The Science of Sleep (2006)

By Carrie Rickey (1,198) for Philadelphia Inquirer (3,920) on 13 Jan 2008

Unlike Gondry's previous features, Human Nature and Eternal Sunshine, Science lacks the sturdy armature of a Charlie Kaufman screenplay to…

Review of The Science of Sleep (2006)

By Desson Thomson (1,673) for Washington Post (9,851) on 16 Aug 2007

Never intends to be deeper than a magician's hat, and its wonderfully low-tech stop-motion technique is not only a nod to Czech animator Jan…

By Urban Cinefile Critics (1,069) for Urban Cinefile (2,850) on 27 Apr 2007

A wondrously baffling jigsaw puzzle where dreams and reality struggle to find a fit, The Science of Sleep is the dream you wish you could have,…

Review of The Science of Sleep (2006)

By Wendy Ide (1,500) for Times (UK) (2,458) on 16 Feb 2007

Gondry always manages to maintain a childlike wonder in the magic of creating a moving image, and never is it more evident than in this film…

Review of The Science of Sleep (2006)

By Stuart Mcgurk (55) for thelondonpaper (91) on 16 Feb 2007

It's whimsical to the point of maddening. Bernal does his best, but there's only so much fawning any man can get away with…

Review of The Science of Sleep (2006)

By Anthony Quinn (478) for Independent (UK) (2,026) on 16 Feb 2007

Dreams are easy to invent, and as easy to forget. The real challenge is to invent stories that have a stake in logic as well as truth…

Review of The Science of Sleep (2006)

By Peter Bradshaw (3,667) for Guardian (4,584) on 16 Feb 2007

A thwarted love story that does not trade in the degraded cliches either of romance or conventional sexiness…

Review of The Science of Sleep (2006)

By Johnny Vaughan (40) for The Sun (UK) (932) on 16 Feb 2007

There's a very thin line between amusingly quirky and just plain pretentious. I'd say this falls somewhere in the middle…

Review of The Science of Sleep (2006)

By David Edwards (979) for Daily Mirror (UK) (1,133) on 16 Feb 2007

As the movie progresses, we're presented with one of the best portrayals of the innate awkwardness of first love I can ever remember seeing…

Review of The Science of Sleep (2006)

By Matthew Turner (2,508) for ViewLondon (2,339) on 15 Feb 2007

Beautifully directed, charmingly surreal and genuinely romantic, this is the perfect offbeat date movie and easily one of the best films of the year…

Review of The Science of Sleep (2006)

By Dave Calhoun (583) for Time Out (7,510) on 14 Feb 2007

In the moment, Gondry and Bernal almost manage to give quirky a good name…

Review of The Science of Sleep (2006)

By Jamie Graham (285) for Total Film (3,532) on 14 Feb 2007

Mischievous and magical, Gondry's bizarro movie offers visual pearl after visual pearl but no string to tie them together. Où est Kaufman…

Review of The Science of Sleep (2006)

By Olly Richards (291) for Empire Magazine (3,326) on 14 Feb 2007

It suffers occasionally from self-consciousness and over-indulgence in its own oddity, but Gondry's grasp of emotion and visuals is enchanting…

Review of The Science of Sleep (2006)

By Matthew Leyland (105) for BBC.com (1,500) on 13 Feb 2007

Credit should be shared with the leads; together they're silly, giddy, irrepressibly inventive - a lot like the film itself…

Review of The Science of Sleep (2006)

By Mike Mcgranaghan (1,821) for Aisle Seat (1,783) on 05 Feb 2007

I'm not sure I would have recommended it in the theater %u2013 where you're paying full ticket price and therefore expect a cohesive experience…

By John J. Puccio (1,217) for Movie Metropolis (1,779) on 03 Feb 2007

Although it has its moments to delight the eye, in the end the movie is neither very cerebral nor very charming but more like weird and wayward…

Review of The Science of Sleep (2006)

By Joseph Proimakis (212) for Movies for the Masses (212) on 09 Dec 2006

Suffers from weak character development and mashed plot continuity, but offers a handfull of beautiful, fresh imagery to make up for it…
