The casting and acting is good, story's ok, but one can't help but to feel that something similar but better has been done before, more than once too. The screwed-up children being a direct result of unhappy childhood is too cliche and over-simplifies the matter.

And at the end a death somehow miraculously resolved everybody's life-long personal issues - too convenient. Dialogue is good, but character development is not. For example, can't understand why Laura Linney all of a sudden cares about her dad so much (or just over a few old photos?).

Some very nice touches here and there though: the clinical and lifeless streets; Linney's relationship; and of course P S Hoffman is always a delight.
