Review of The Savages (2007) by Zack H — 23 Dec 2008
It's emotional. It's funny. It's poignant. Combine those elements well enough and you have yourself a pretty damn good film. And that's what we have here. The raw moments are the ones that stick with you the most, and when you're dealing with Laura Linney and Philip Symour Hoffman as your leads, you know those moments will not be wasted.
It's definitely a little depressing at times, since the film examines our mortality and how miserable we can make ourselves in the pursuit of our life's goals. Fortunately, the film also ends on an uplifting note, which is nice.
