Review of The Savages (2007) by Roberto R — 30 Mar 2009
May be I shouldnâ??t write about a film that I kept on nodding off to while watching it! Pretty middle class whinny, dull and depressing Americans try to adjust to their aging father and get him the care that he needs, but having said that, it had some funny moments.
While watching it (while not asleep), I was wondering, do these people really have anything to complain about? Overrated acting from the leads. Just because it Laura Linney and Philip Seymour-Hoffman doesnâ??t mean they are any better then some TV soap star who would could of portrayed these roles.
What it had to say, just didnâ??t gel with me. I just saw a vehicle for some actors to act in a more â??human storyâ??, which has American â??indieâ?? idealism to its structure and narrative, which in the end, with all the dullness and lengthy stares and soul searching, was slightly schmaltzy in the end.
