Review of The Savages (2007) by Kelsey L — 04 Apr 2009
I love Hoffman and Linney. The always put so much of themselves into each character whether it's a TV show wife (Linney is Truman Show) or a washed up child actor coming to grip with his own past failures (Hoffman in Along Came Polly) its always fun to watch.
In this film, these two do the best they can with what is, in reality, a rather pedestrian script. The characters as written are cliqued out the ass and it seems all the interesting writing was spent on the old man (Bosco).
In the end it story seemed as self centered as the lead roles were. At the end of the day, feel free to rent this but don't spend more than $2 on it. It's entertaining but not special.
