Review of The Sapphires (2012) by Jeff R — 14 Nov 2012
The Sapphires does not aim to be original, but it offers plenty of goofy charm and fine tunes to keep audience entertained in its formulaic narrative. While the girls all manage to shine in their roles, it's Chris O'Dowd who steals the show in his charismatic performance as the manager with a heart of gold, and yes, he's got such a phenomenal voice to boot! The film, however, does feel manipulative and heavy-handed at times, especially towards the end.
